Nutrition Best Practice Guidelines to Strengthen Immune System

I am a cancer survivor and became hyper-focused on nutrition after my bout with testicular cancer in 2010. One of my core values is evidence-based medicine and nutrition. Here are the best ideas we can offer you to prepare your body for covid.

1. Get better sleep and no electronics after 9:30 PM - Between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM your body goes into what is called a Slow Wave Sleep cycle. In this, your body releases Growth Hormone, which produces the needed immune system response. You want to take advantage of this, studies have shown this can increase immune system response by as much as 54%

2. NO Sugar NO Dairy - weakens the immune system - enough said, take this seriously.

3. Vitamin A - Cod Liver Oil - Carrots - this is critical in mitigating/lessening the adverse reaction or Cytokine storm that this virus creates. This cytokine storm is one of the key causes of this virus producing a serious reaction known as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome or (ARDS).

4. Full Spectrum of the Pepper Rainbow - Dark Green Bell Pepper, Red, Yellow, juice twice a week (4 oz) create a nice rainbow antioxidant blanket to support melatonin production at night. Eat some celery with this and your Selenium box also gets a checkmark.

5. Green teas

6. Zinc & Selenium supplementation - Don't overdo it, it can harm you, also better to get from foods. Google foods are rich in these minerals and incorporate to taste.

7. Sunshine - get your Vitamin D via sunshine - the darker the skin color the more exposure you will need. 20- 40 minutes a day on as much skin as possible

8. Mushrooms are shown to increase immunity in the mucus lining of the eyes, throat. This is a main way that air-borne viruses enter the body. Eat More Mushrooms!

9. Consider a plant-based diet. I use Nutritionfacts.org for my personal information and dietary habits.

Jesse in Ensenada

In 2011, I traded the noise of burnout for the pace of the Pacific coast. What began as a personal search for healing in Ensenada evolved into a mission to share the best of this region with the world.

Over the last 15 years, I haven’t just lived in Baja; I’ve mapped its secrets, mastered its logistics, and built a community-focused business dedicated to authentic, stress-free exploration.

As the founder of Ensenada Massage and Valle Mobile Spa, I believe wellness should be as accessible as the landscape. Recognizing a need for more intimate, traveler-centric experiences, I launched Ensenada Excursions & Tours. I saw the limitations of crowded, cookie-cutter shore trips and built a team that prioritizes privacy, safety, and local insight—so you can experience Baja on your own terms. Today, through Baja Tours & Transport, we bridge the gap between San Diego and the heart of the peninsula, ensuring your journey is as seamless as your destination.

I split my time between Point Loma and Ensenada, but my heart is permanently on the road. Whether I’m scouting a new path through the Valle de Guadalupe, practicing capoeira, or diving into the latest research on longevity, I am constantly learning to better serve those who visit our home.

I’m more than just a business owner; I’m your local resource for everything from hidden taco spots to the perfect itinerary.
